In the historic center of Lisbon, near Castelo Sao Jorge & Alfama, Santa luiza Mirador & Graça
The oldest and most emblematic neighbourhood of Lisbon, Alfama is a small medieval village or medina in the heart of the capital.
It was spared total destruction by the great earthquake of 1755 due to being founded on the rocky soil of the highest hill of the city.
It is a place that invites you to get lost in its alleys and squares and to let your senses be your guide: seeing fantastic views of the river, hearing the sound of Fado coming from a typical restaurant, savouring traditional dishes and discovering magnificent panels of ‘azulejos’ (typical Portuguese tiles).
Life in Alfama keeps the historical traditions and as you walk down towards the river, you find yourself in the 21st century, with old warehouses now converted into some of the most fashionable places in town.
